Plans Unveiled for Australia's Largest Prison

Ampac Queensland has been successful in obtaining the order for the Grafton Prison with a total of 64 networked FireFinder PLUS Intelligent Addressable Fire Alarm Control Panel, computer graphics, and 366 Wagner Aspirated Systems. This is the largest prison to be built in Australia. Ampac Queensland is proud to be working with their customer Triple M and the installer Interfire.

It's a slice of countryside nestled in the Clarence Valley - that will soon be home to 1,700 criminals. The Clarence Correctional Centre, located 12km south of Grafton, will be a state-of-the-art development for men and women that marks a significant shift away from the traditional prison model. With no bars on the windows, the prison will have a "campus-style" layout and tablet computers for inmates to use for tasks like checking their finances and undertaking training programs. Up to 1000 maximum-security male prisoners and 300 maximum-security female prisoners will be locked up at the centre, alongside another 400 minimum-security male offenders. Along with rehabilitation, high-tech security and surveillance are also a focus of the $700 million development.

The project is due to be completed by mid-2020. The prison is being developed by the State Government in partnership with a consortium that includes John Holland, Serco, John Laing, and Macquarie Capital.
