Redfern Station
Ampac protects the Redfern Station in Sydney, NSW
Redfern Station is Sydney’s fifth busiest train station. Its upgrade, which started in 2020, has consisted of new stairs and lifts, new station entrances, relocation of a heritage building, installation of solar panels & rainwater tank, and many other improvements.
The Challenge
The project involved two main aspects: an upgrade of the existing Ampac EV3000 panel and the expansion of the site. Given the project’s location, an operational railway station, the goal was to keep disruptions to a minimum.
The Solution
Honeywell and Precision Fire have installed 5 EvacUElite at the Redfern Station. They’re replacing the existing EV3000 panel and will also protect the new part of the station.
EvacUElite is Ampac’s newest Emergency Warning Control and Indicating Equipment (EWCIE). The system aims at broadcasting and facilitating the orderly evacuation of the train station in the event of a fire or an emergency.
During the station expansion, it was a convenient time to upgrade the evacuation system throughout the entire premises.
Compared to the EV3000, the EvacUElite offers easier installation and commissioning: it is programmable on-site, enables user-customised background music and sequencing, and has double the EWS zone capacity with 48 EWS zones or 96 Warden Handset Controls per control frame.
The EvacuElite also comes with digital loop warden Handsets that can be installed to reduce cabling requirements and, consequently, installation costs.
The EvacUElite proves to be easier to install, commission and maintain. It is also fully compliant with the latest Australian Standards: AS 4428.16:2020, AS 4428.4:2016 & AS 7240.4:2018.
