Royal Surrey County Hospital
Find out how Ampac protects the major NHS foundation trust main Hospital Site.
Project Overview
Royal Surrey County Hospital is a major NHS foundation trust delivering acute, specialist, and emergency care to communities across Surrey and the surrounding region. The hospital’s estate comprises clinical wards, operating theatres, diagnostic suites, laboratories, administrative buildings, and high‑traffic public areas - each presenting distinct fire safety challenges.
The Challenge
Royal Surrey required a solution capable of:
- Reliable 24/7 operation with minimal false alarms
- Integration with legacy and new life‑safety infrastructure
- Scalability to accommodate ongoing site redevelopment
- Compliance with HTM 05‑03, BS 5839, and NHS fire safety requirements
- Sensitive yet robust detection performance across critical areas such as theatres, sterilisation units, imaging suites, and high‑dependency patient wards.
Installation also had to be delivered within live clinical environments. Maintaining sterile conditions, patient comfort, and operational continuity required phased works, precise planning, and close coordination with the hospital’s Estates & Facilities teams.
The Solution
Working with the team at Trinity Fire and Security, Ampac’s FireFinder Plus control panel range, paired with Apollo protocol detection devices, was selected as the optimum solution. The installation consisted of 11 FireFinder Plus control panels, a Special Build Master 320‑zone FireFinder Plus panel built to the hospital’s specific requirements, Ampac’s SmartView graphics package, and the Nimbus Digital Cloud Monitoring platform for enhanced event visibility and management.
